Chrissy -
Do you have a subject that you want to focus on? Or should we both just find external research and find out what we've missed? Would you like to try to write this on Google Docs to collaborate on the final paper? Is that the easiest you think?
And one more thing! Sorry! How do you feel about having the "pre-writing matrix" filled in by Tuesday morning? Does that give us enough time to draft the 5 page paper? It's due Friday night. Let me know your thoughts.
I'd like to do some "preliminary research" to begin with then maybe try to focus on one specific area. I think Tuesday is a good date to plan on having the matrix filled in. Of course the earlier the better but I don't see that happening this week. :-/ Also, I have never used Google Docs but I'm definitely willing to try.
Great! We can give it a shot. I'll work on starting a doc and sharing it.
Cool. And actually I think there are 4 areas (stakeholders) that we have to focus on. I think... So we'd take 2 each I guess.
I added some jibberish to the Google doc and shared it with you. On my end, I can see that the changes were saved. Do you see that?
Also, I still cannot access your wiki. I've even e-mailed Wikispaces, but I've heard nothing back. Could we use my wiki until this gets all worked out?
I feel so clueless and far behind between the wiki not allowing access and TeacherTube being down. I apologize for slowing us down.
After checking out Dr. M's resources, should we direct our research at advantages for collaboration for all stakeholders?
1 - Yes I can see your signature pink! How'd ya like the Google doc idea?
2 - How strange. I'm trying to remember how I accepted you. Did you get my email the second time? I think I had to be logged in or something... It was strange. Are you sure you don't wanna give it a shot? Let me know 'cuz I have everything set up. I think...
3 - What do you mean by "all stakeholders"? Don't you think for the paper we're gonna have an intro, fourish body paragraphs divided like the matrix (students/classroom teachers/school librarians/administrators) reflection and conclusion? Did you wanna divide those? Were you thinking something different?
4 - I have a few articles I emailed to myself that I happened upon when looking for the required articles this week. I don't know if they're even what we're looking for 'cuz I haven't opened them. Do you want me to email them to you?
Trying to trouble shoot for you 'cuz the problem isn't going to go away. :)
We try to simplify the process a bit further: If the user clicks the link in the invitation email that was sent to them, they are prompted to accept or reject that invitation on the page immediately following the account creation page. I'm going to share another DOC with you. Let's do the matrix on a Google Doc for now 'til we get things sorted out. :)
Chrissy, Just checking in. I just finished watching all the videos and filling in the pre-writing matrix. I created a Google doc, then I cut and pasted it to the wiki. Suggestion... Maybe ask the GA if she can trouble shoot. Maybe she is able to "approve" me or something?
I was thinking ahead to when we actually begin writing. You may have already thought about this, too. When doing our research, lets not worry about dividing up stakeholder groups. Let's just find as much info about each group as possible. Then, we can decide which 2 groups we'll each write about. Does that work for you? I'm always open to other suggestions. I just figured I'd throw it out there in case I later forget....which is likely.
Sounds good. I may just make another matrix on my notes and that'll be easier to see what we have. Maybe... That may drive me bananas. It may just be divided sections. And.. yes I agree. It shouldn't be too bad if we read the same articles cuz then we'll know where it came from and the context. Let's start with the articles I emailed you already. Let me know if you think one is crap. I won't be offended.
I was able to add notes to the matrix from 3 of the 4 articles you sent me. The one by Audrey Church (I think that's her name) didn't offer me much...just further described the roles of a librarian. I made notes about all the others. I went ahead and make another matrix on my notes page and linked to it on the wiki. I'm just copying & pasting from my notes matrix to our combo matrix. I also found a few articles (haven't read them yet...not sure how great). I'll send them your way.
You were busy today! Do you think we have enough research now? Surely we do, right? Plus we can add the info from the class articles.
Do you have 2 stakeholders that you'd like to take? Do you have a preference?
Also... A friend of mine is driving in for the weekend. She's gonna get here at midnight tonight and leave Sunday evening. I haven't fallen off the face of the planet if you don't hear from me 'til Sunday. Don't worry. :) I plan on reading some more Sunday night, and then hitting it really hard on Monday evening. (I'm on mountain time - fyi)
Yahoo! Even better! A date extension! We'll be fine now!
Oh, I know! I'm so excited!
We're in much better shape! Even rockstars! The date change took a lot of stress off. We have open house this week and that makes for a 7:30-9:00 day! Just checking in. I'm filling in my notes tonight. I read and highlighted my PDFs last night, now I'm just inputting that info into my notes.
Which articles from class should we use? Do you have a preferred paragraph? Can we try to have a rough draft of the paper done by Saturday AM? That way we just have to check it for the 1,000th time this weekend and turn it in? Let me know if that works with your schedule!
Oh! And what do you think about the We Are Not Alone article you found. I didn't find anything in there for my matrix. Did I miss something?
Saturday AM sounds great. I'll try to have my end of it done sooner b/c I have to go out of town Friday night, and I don't do Saturday mornings.
I was thinking about what stakeholders I'd like to write about. I do not have a strong preference, but I was thinking of taking teachers and administrators. (Mostly b/c we've found lots of info about teachers and not so much about admin. It kinda evens out.) I can talk with my principal and instructional specialist tomorrow to get some info. There seems to be a pretty even amount of info for librarians and students. If you prefer one of the ones I've chose, let me know. I'm not married to either of them.
We Are Not Alone...chunk it. It didn't help me any. In fact, the Ross Todd article was the only one I got really good stuff from. I need to look over our class readings again to determine which ones we ought to include. I'll get back to you on that by tomorrow evening.
That sounds great! I'll do students and librarians then. I'm gonna read a bit more and take some more notes.
When will you be back? Will you have time to look over the final paper before Sunday night?
So... Our paper's focus is a summary of the benefits of collaboration for each stakeholder, right?
I'm just going and coming back Friday evening. I sell jewelry, and I'm having a show in the town I used to live. Assuming nothing chaotic comes up, I should haveplenty of time Saturday to polish our draft.
Awesome just checking.
Don't forget we're trying to write the paper on Google Docs. Feel free to bump the info on there down or delete it completely. ;)
Do we want to use the doc you copied the assignment on? Or start a new one?
I say just use the doc that's already created. We know we can both access and manipulate that one! ;) I added another page. I called it "outline". I wonder if we can start compiling the works cited info there. Check out the order I put the paragraphs in. Does that make sense? I was thinking along the lines of student benefits, then teachers, then admin, and then a what's in it for the librarian paragraph... Whatcha think? Last question of the night.... Did you take notes and include some of the articles from class? I haven't done that yet, but I'm not going to if you did already. :) I think I'm done "researching". Take a look at my notes and see what you think. Are we finished with articles and ready to move on to the writing?
I have open house tomorrow night. I'm not sure that you'll hear from me 'cuz it's gonna be a 7:30 - 9:00 night for me. I'm sure I'll be exhausted and then hungry mungry.Sorry. I lied. Just one more thing. When you look at my matrix, also scroll down past the matrix. I have info down there that I couldn't quite place.
I added a new page to the Case Study. I called it Pre-Writing Page. I started it last night, but apparently I didn't link it. Oops! Looks like great minds think alike because I started a Works Cited there too! Also.. Please feel free to use my notes. Just to be clear... You're writing the teacher and admin paragraphs and I'm writing the student and librarian paragraphs. Right?
See what you think about the "outline" I did. Does that order seem more logical?I'll take another look at the PPT and take some notes.
Yes, I am doing teacher & admin while you do student & librarian. Outline looks great. I like how you've organized it very much.
As i put on the matrix page, I added student & librarian notes as I came across good stuff. I thought you might want to use it. If not, chunk it.
I'm going to try to start a rough draft tonight.
I've started writing my rough draft in our Google Doc. Do I have to share it with you after I've done my part, or since we've already shared it, do you automatically see my changes?
I should be able to see them. We could even work simultaneously! Great start!
What date would you say we accessed the TeacherTube videos? I'm working on their citations. I'm thinking 9/12 b/c it was after I got back from my trip.
Perfect.
I looked back at some db posts, and saw that Dr. M requires word-for-word quotes. I have imbedded as many as possible. In some instances, I did not simply b/c I felt my paraphrase fit better. As we proofread each others sections (and our own, of course), will you make suggestions about paraphrases that you think could be strengthened with quotes and vice versa? Did that make any sense at all? It does in my head, but I'm not sure how to get it out. :-/
Take a look-see at the rubric. Am I reading it correctly? Does it state that we have to have a works cited on our personal notes pages, as well as the shared matrix?
I've linked a bib page to our matrix page. Hopefully that will suffice. If not, we could copy/paste it to the matrix page.
Check my math, but I think - WE DID IT! I deleted the subheadings, reworked the introduction, and deleted a few extra phrases in my paragraphs in attempt to be more succinct and direct. I think we now have 5 pages + the works cited.
Okay... I think I'm done. You wanna take a final look at it? I'll submit the rubric. In fact I'm going to do that right now before I forget. Then after you've taken a final look, go to "File" and then "Download as" and you'll be able to put the original file on your desktop. Then check the Works Cited for the 100th time, I'm afraid it'll change when you download it as a "real" doc, and then send it off to Dr. M.
If there's something else you want me to take a look at before you finalize and send it off, please let me know!
That last line.... What about something to do with the 21st century instead of future?
I made some changes and comments. Take a look & give me your opinions. I would like to be able to get this turned in this afternoon...in the event that my Saturday night repeats tonight.
I took a final look, inserted page numbers, justified it, resolved comments again, and just left you one last comment. You can take that comment and chuck it if you'd like. It's the last thing I saw that maybe could be changed. I emailed you instructions on how to download the Google Doc yesterday, just in case you didn't know. I know you'd figure it out, but maybe not if you were stressed or multitasking. Sometimes I just want someone to give me the answers instead of finding out on my own! Not very teacherly, but reality.
You were a great partner to work with! I think we made a decent team. It looks like we might be rotated back in to work with one another again since there are so few secondary geeks, and I'd be happy to team up again if need be!
Hope you had a positive Google Doc experience! (Did I make you a convert?)
Let me know if you have submission problems and we'll get it worked out somehow. I'll be out of the house for the next 3 or 4 hours, but then I'll be back the rest of the night.
Have a great week!
I have enjoyed being your partner. Yes, you have converted me to Google Docs. I love them!! I hope we do have the opportunity to work together again. Thank you for being understanding as I've been sans technology this weekend.
